What’s involved in joining CMUK?
We are a Community Interest Company by ‘large membership’, registered in UK. To legally fulfil our constitution and serve our community, we must hold monthly members meetings. We aim to develop the capacity of arts, heritage, education and environmental practitioners to engage people with environmental issues. We do this through professional training and activation projects, such as workshops and pop-up experiences, in partnership with museums, heritage bodies, charities and universities. Our members are based in various places across the UK, and we’re keen for this reach to local communities to grow. Our newsletters give a glimpse into our projects.
Our members say that it is valuable for:
– sharing practice in our monthly themed meetings and getting feedback
– coming together with other members to form joint projects and raise funds (using CMUK’s bank account, reputation, insurance and policies)
– promoting their practice in our publications, toolkits, social media platforms and groups
– getting paid work opportunities which develop their practice.
We don’t have a physical venue, so we can’t easily exhibit work or create exhibitions.
If you would like to be a member, this involves a commitment to support us as an organisation by:
– attending meetings,
– doing social posts or blogposts,
– developing proposals and joint projects,
– sharing some of your resources with others or mentoring emerging practitioners
– and maybe some admin.
There is no financial cost (and time commitment can be as little as an hour a month)
It is suitable for people with an existing substantial practice engaging people with environmental issues. If you would like to develop your practice before joining us as a member, consider joining the Earth Talk community. This is a series of courses, online group and access to lots of resources. You can join this at any time, access course recordings from the past year, and the next course will be end of October.

Alternatively, you might want to be named as a Supporting Partner if you are:
– an organisation such as a university, museum, theatre company, creative business, activist group or artist collective keen to collaborate with us to develop a project, or have done this in the past
OR
– someone with resources or expertise who is motivated to help us (e.g. with communications, fundraising or donations) but doesn’t want to commit to membership.
